Sachar Comm report: NCP to stage dharna outside Dikshit's office
New Delhi, Aug 7 (UNI) Demanding immediate steps to implement the recommendations of the Sachar Committee report on minorities, Delhi Pradesh Nationalist Congress party president and MLA Ramvir Singh Bidhuri today said the party would stage a dharna on August 9 outside Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's office on the issue.
Addressing reporters here, Mr Bidhuri said,'' The Delhi Government should take immediate steps to implement recommendations of the Sachar committee report on minorities as any further delay in taking action in this regard will send a wrong signal to the community and cast a shadow on the intentions of the Government.'' Mr Bidhuri said at the outset, immediate legislative or executive measures should be taken to provide 15 per cent reservation to minorities in government jobs and those in the public sector undertakings of the Delhi government with immediate effect.
''It has been months since the Sachar committee had submitted its report. Now, it is high time that action was taken to provide benefits of this report to the minorities. Fifteen per cent reservation in government jobs should be made mandatory and if for this the Government has to introduce legislation, it should convene an emergency session of the Assembly and take necessary action,'' Mr Bidhuri said.
He said banks and financial institutions also be given instructions without any further delay to implement the decision of the UPA Government to provide priority lending to minorities at a low rate of interest.
''The Government should ensure that loans are given to minorities at low interest rates so as to enable them to establish themselves and set up their business for prosperity,''the Delhi NCP chief said.
He also demanded that immediate steps be taken to fulfil the promise made by the Delhi government to set up a separate Minorities Development Financial corporation in Delhi provide monetary benefit for the uplift of minorities in the capital.
