NIC introduces Data Centre and Wide Area Networking in Bihar

Patna, Aug 07 (UNI) National Informatics Centre(NIC), the Union Government's software arm, today opened its new Data Centre and Wide Area Network here as part of its nationwide expansion programme.

Inaugrating the Centre, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said the facilities provided here would go a long way in enhancing the e-governance capability of the state government and their proper implementation for executing its developmental plans and programmes.

The Data Centre would also help bring greater transparency in the administration with multiplying effect to place Bihar as one of the leading states, the chief minister asserted.

Presiding over the function, Union Minister of State for Information and Technology Shakeel Ahmad said, ''The progress of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and its implementation in Bihar was not as backward as was assumed. Keeping this in mind the Centre had planned to invest Rs 23 crore for further improvement of e-governance in the state.'' Moreover, the scheme was aimed at benefitting the common men in terms of better connectivity between the districts and state headquarters besides making e-governance more transparent and effective, the union minister added.

Among others, State Information and Technology Minister Anil Kumar and Director General of NIC Dr B K Gorolla were present.
