Need to check illegal ODSs trade in border areas: Official
Hyderabad, Aug 7 (UNI) National Academy of Customs, Excise and Narcotics (NACENs) Additional Director R Venkataraman today stressed the need to check illegal trade of Ozone Depleting Substances (ODSs) to protect Ozone layer.
Inaugurating a one-day workshop on 'monitoring and control of ODSs', organised by the NACEN here, Mr Venkataraman said gases used in CFC refrigirants were being smuggled out from neighbouring countries which were harmful to the environment.
The illegal trade of hazardous gases should be curbed to protect the environment, he noted.
Stating that the customs agencies and other enforcement bodies should effectively monitor and control import and export licencing mechanisms, he said NACEN was organising awareness camps for the officials concerned every year.
Jawaharlal Nehru Technology University (JNTU) Prof M N Rao said the Ozone depletion problem could be overcomed in the next 50 years, if the people develop a right attitude on this subject.
