KC (J) demands solution to self-financing issue
Kottayam, Aug 7 (UNI) Kerala Congress (J), a constituent of the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala, today expressed its disapproval of the developments in the self-financing sector.
Talking to newspersons here, party General Secretary Francis George, MP, and Vice Chairman Skaria Thomas appealed to the government to take effective steps to resolve the stalemate in the education sector immediately.
They emphasised the need for finding a solution to the precarious situation prevailing in the self-financing education sector following the continued legal battle. ''It is the responsibility of the government to allay the concern of the parents and students,'' they said.
''Unfortunately, a feeling that the LDF is 'anti-minority' has developed in the state. It should be viewed seriously,'' they said.
Developments in the self-financing sector, local bodies intervention in the running of schools and criticisms and statements against bishops and priests had created great concern and hurt the sentiments of the Christian minorities in the state, he said and appealed to the government to find a solution to the problem immediately.
In the light of the failure to resolve the crisis through discussion under the leadership of Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, an LDF sub-committee should be constituted under him to resolve the issue, they demanded.
The Kerala Congress leaders said before implementing the C P Nair Committee report on KER reforms, detailed discussion should be conducted with all parties concerned to bring amendments.
