Incessant rains continue to lash Kolhapur district
Kolhapur, Aug 7 (UNI) One person drowned in Chandgad tehsil and three villages Rajapur, Rajapurwadi and Khidrapur in Shirol tehsil of this district were marooned once again, due to incessant rains since the past five days.
Vithoba Vasant Salam (30) from Ghulewadi village in Chandgad tehsil drowned while crossing a flooded nullah, whose body was recovered yesterday, District Collectorate spokesman today said.
The water level of Krishna river continued to increase. Water from Warna and Radhanagari dams have been discharged Warna and Panchaganga rivers.
Nearly, 43 villages in the district have been affected as various routes submerged with flooded water, the spokesman said.
The Panchaganga river continued to swell and is flowing at a height of 38.2 feet, close to the danger mark at Rajaram weir at city's Kasaba Bavada suburb.
Five automatic gates of Radhanagari irrigation dam were opened today and has been discharging 7400 cusecs of water into Bhogawati river bed, which joins Panchaganga river while 15290 cusec of water has been discharged from Warna dam outlet at Warna river, the spokesman said.
A total of 773.3 mm rainfall was recorded in the district during the last 24 hours, which ended this morning. The highest rainfal of 174 mm was recorded in Radhanagari tehsil. It was followed by Gaganbavada with rainfall of 120 mm, Chandgad 94 mm and Shahuwadi 92 mm, the spokesman added.
