Hurriyat spokesman's son arrested in Kashmir
Srinagar, Aug 7 (UNI) Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police today arrested Sarvar Yaqub, son of a senior leader of breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) Aiyaz Akbar.
Official sources said Yaqub, a second year student of Amar Singh college was on way to his home along with friends from college when he was arrested by the SOG.
However, his friends were released after questioning by the SOG personnel.
Yaqub is the son of Aiyaz, HC spokesman and close confident of amalagam chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
Aiyaz's family members alleged that a group of SOG personnel in civil dress raided their cowshed at Malroo after the arrest of Yaqub at 1630 hours.
They were carrying some bag when they (SOG personnel) went inside the cowshed and left with the same bag, the family members and other residents alleged.
Mr Geelani has condemned the arrest of Mr Aiyaz's son and demanded his immediate release.
He said such measures only reflect the frustration of the government and exposes the promises made by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and state Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
