Four die in landslides, CM to visit accident spot
Itanagar, Aug 7 (UNI) Four members of a family were buried alive today following a massive landslides triggered by continuous heavy rainfall at Sherjong village under Mukto Circle in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh.
Official sources said only one of the bodies were recovered so far after a long rescue operation.
Five double-storied RCC buildings and 20 double-storied traditional Monpa houses were completely wiped away in the landslides, sources informed.
District administration, Army, Paramilitary forces and General Reserve Engineering Force (GREF) have been conducting rescue operations on war footing. Relief materials and other items have been distributed to the victims. Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), women and students organizations of Jang have also joined the rescue operation.
However, continuous rainfall for the past few days and landslides were disrupting the rescue and relief works, sources said.
Meanwhile Chief Minister, Dorjee Khandu, under whose constituency the circle falls, has expressed shock at the incident and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
