Criminal opens fire, cop wounded

Varanasi, Aug 7 (UNI) A police personnel was injured when a motorcycle-borne criminal fired at him in Phoolpur area here.

Two police constables Ram Swaroop and Jai Prakash were on mobike patrolling duty late last night, when they spotted a youth coming on a motorcycle from the opposite direction.

The policemen asked the youth to stop, who instead started firing, resulting in wounds to Ram Swaroop. The other cop, however, tried to catch the youth, but all in vain, police said here today.

The wounded had been admitted to a private hospital.
