Congress stages walkout over funds for Nanjundappa report

Bangalore, Aug 7 (UNI) Opposition Congress in the Legislative Assembly today staged a walkout protesting against the state government for not allocating separate funds for the implementation of Nanjundappa Committee report to remove the regional imbalance in the state.

In his reply to the discussion on the issue, Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said that the coalition government was committed to implement the committee report over the next eight years and had announced this in the Belgaum session.

It had provided funds of Rs 1,571 crore in the budget for this year for the implementation of the report, he said.

Congress members including Mr Siddaramaiah, Mr Mallikarjun Kharge wanted to know whether the government had released separate funds besides regular allocations for the implementation of the committee report and the house witnessed a hot debate over the issue.

They said the government had provided the funds only from the regular budgetory allocation and not any additonal funds.

Not satisfied by the clarification given by Mr Yediyurappa, Congress members led by Leader of Opposition N Dharam Singh staged the walkout.
