BSP candidate Salkhan Murmu files nomination

Jamshedpur, Aug 7 (UNI) Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) candidate Salkhan Murmu today filed nomination for the August 29 Jamshedpur Lok Sabha bypolls.

Mr Murmu, who joined the BSP recently, was accompanied by the party national general secretary and former MP Ram Naresh Arya and party national secretary Dr Baliram.

He was the first candidate of a national party to file the nomination for the bypoll.

BJP candidate Dinesh Sarangi is scheduled to file nomination tomorrow while Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate and the wife of slain JMM MP Suman Mahto would file nomination on August 9, the sources said.

The bypoll was necessitated owing to the murder of Mr Mahto by Naxalites on March 4 at Baghuria village in East Singhbhum district.

Meanwhile, acting on a complaint by JPP general secretary Surya Singh Besra, an FIR was filed yesterday against Murmu by the Patamda police for violation of model code of conduct. The BJP candidate was charged with holding meeting with party workers at a government bungalow at Patamda on August 2 which had violated section 144 Cr Pc.

Earlier, another case of violation of model code of conduct was brought against Murmu by the Kadma police for taking out a motorcycle rally on July 27.
