Manipur: 9 hardcore militants nabbed in last 48 hrs

Imphal, Aug 07: Altogether, nine hardcore militants were apprehended by Manipur police and troops in seperate incidents during the last 48 hours.

Imphal East Superintendent of Police (SP) Kailun said here today that Imphal East police commandos and 23 Assam Rifles (AR) launched an operation at Imphal East from August five in which four People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) cadres were apprehended.

He added that the operation was still continuing.

The SP said one nine mm pistol and one magazine loaded with two live rounds were recovered from them. The militants were allegedly involved in recent cases of firing.

Meanwhile, another Imphal East Commandos team yesterday nabbed a People's United Liberation Front (PULF) cadre, identified as Md Firoz at Imphal East, who allegedly used to demand money from the general public for raising party funds for PULF.

In another incident, Imphal West District Police Commandos and 32 AR personnel nabbed a Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) cadre yesterday. He was allegedly assigned to extort money from the contractors of Manipur University.

In yet another incident, police and troops launched an operation at Iroishemba, Imphal West yesterday and a People's Liberation Army (PLA) cadre and a PREPAK cadre were apprehended. 21 AR also nabbed a PLA cadre at Thoubal district, the PRO of AR said.
