Tension prevails following clash between Congress workers

Puducherry, Aug 6 (UNI) Tension prevailed at Arumparthapuram and Manaveli areas here following a clash between two groups of Congress workers today.

The clash was a sequel to the alleged abuse on Ozhukarai Legislator Namasivayam by the area Councillor, following a power failure in the area last night.

Two supporters of Namasivayam allegedly assaulted the Councillor Mahalingam and in retaliation, the Councillor's supporters attacked Namasivayam's supporters, which led to road-rokhos at two different places.

Traffic to Villuppuram was affected while it was diverted on the Puducherry-Villianur road. Police, however, managed to pacify the agitators and restored traffic.

Armed police pickets had been posted at both the villages to prevent any untoward incidents.
