Sethu project would cause environment destruction: Venkaiah

Tirumala, Aug 6 (UNI) BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu today alleged that environment destruction would occur, if attempts were made to construct Setusamudram Shipping Canal Project(SSCP) in place of the age-old Rama Sethu temple between Rameswaram and Sri Lanka, as it would affect the Hindu sentiments.

Talking to newspersons here, Mr Naidu, who arrived here to offer worship to Lord Venkateswara, alleged that the project would destroy the under-sea Palk Strait bridge linked to Lord Rama and bring in another tsunami, which would affect Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad(VHP) was planning to observe a nation-wide agiation on Ausut 11 against the project, he said. The bridge, instead, should be declared as a World Heritage site and against Adharma, he added.

Mr Naidu also alleged that the Tirumala Tirupati Devastanam(TTD) Trust Board decision to provide light-fitted trains between Renigunta and Tirumala, would not only spoil the environment, but also affect the Hindu sentiments.
