New Delhi, Aug 6 (UNI) The Congress today asserted that there was not an iota of evidence to support that any of the Party leaders had association with Ashok Malhotra, the prime suspect in the capital's multi-crore land scam.

AICC Spokesman Abishek Manu Singhvi told mediapersons that no partyman had plotted with Malhotra, who is running the canteen in Delhi Vidhan Sabha, to topple the Sheila Dikshit government.

"I emphatically state that the so-called plots to overthrow the government are fertile imagination of idle and overactive mind...There is no plot...These are tactics to divert the attention." In this context, he said he had talked to the Chief Minister and she had confirmed that nothing of this sort had happened.

"Let us not go by rumour mongering," he said, adding that "the police should be allowed to do their job." Replying to a question, Dr Singhvi said "individual criminality had nothing to do with political parties." He said serious allegations of criminality involving land scams could not be converted into car number scam or into supposive plot to overthrow a government.

Dr Singhvi said it was true that some legislators had recommended fancy car numbers to Malhotra's personal fleet of cars. "But to attach all actions to such persons is irrelevant." Malhotra, whose was a story of rags to riches, was arrested today by the CBI after he made a sensational appearance in the studio of a private television channel.
