Homeguards demonstrate near Assam Assembly

Guwahati, Aug 6 (UNI) The All Assam Trained Homeguards Association today staged a demonstration near the state Assembly on the first day of the Monsoon Session.

The homeguards were demanding regularisation of their posts and extension of benefits to them at par with other security forces in the state.

They also demanded that the Homeguards Act of 1947 be amended and their posts be made 'permanent' instead of the present 'voluntary' nature. It would ensure them monthly salary instead of daily wage and entitle them to other benefits.

The homeguards also urged the government to appoint them at state government offices and PSUs in place of the private and untrained security guards in many such places.

The association rued the fact that their grievances had gone unheard even after they had been protesting during every session of the Assembly for the past several sessions.
