HC stays proceedings against Natwar, Jagat

New Delhi, Aug 6 (UNI) Delhi High Court today stayed the proceedings against former External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh and his son Jagat Singh for violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) filed by the Enforcement Directorate in the Oil for food scam.

A bench comprising Justice T S Thakur and Justice Kailash Gambhir restrained th ED from going ahead with the proceedings in the case till further orders.

Mr Natwar Singh has filed a petition seeking the return of all those papers which were collected from his office and were being relied upon by the ED to pursue its case against him.

Earlier, a single bench of Justice Badar Durrez had dismissed their petition on the grounds that the law of the country has no such provision to supply those papers to the accused on which the investigation agency frames the charges.

The former minister had then challenged the single bench's order before the Division bench.
