flood situation worsenes in Samastipur,army deployed

Samastipur, Aug 6 (UNI) Functioning in the civil court, prison and other government offices today halted as water of the flooded Bagmati and Kareh rivers entered Rosera sub-division of this district where the army had been deployed to tackle the situation.

District Magistrate N Sravan Kumar said that water entered at around 0300 hours in all the government offices.

About 3.5 ft water was flowing in the wards of Rosera sub-divisional jail while about 2 ft water was flowing in the court rooms where work was affected. The court authorities were shifting the court rooms at higher places with the help of the local administration.

Dr Kumar said about 2 ft water was also flowing in all the government offices in Rosera sub-division.The affected offices were being shifted to safe places.

He said prisoners of the sub-divisional jail had taken shelter on the roof of the jail. Security had been enhanced in view of its vulnerability.

The DM said four army motorboats had been pressed into service for relief and rescue work in the district where 460 villages of nine blocks were marooned and over 10 lakh people affected.
