Arunachal to adopt strict measures while issuing ILP: Gamlin

Itanagar, Aug 6 (UNI) The Arunachal Pradesh government would adopt strict measures while issuing Inner Line Permits (ILP) to check influx of foreigners following the recent deportation of Bangladeshi nationals from the state.

Talking to newspersons here today, Home Minister Jarbom Gamlin said the state government would properly examine all the relevant documents, including Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC), issued to Bangladeshi or other foreign illegal migrants by neighbouring states before issuance of ILP. ''Illegal Bangladeshi migrants obtain PRC from Asom with the help of certain minority organisations, including All Assam Minority Students' Union (AAMSU),'' he alleged and appealed to all not to keep illegal immigrants with them and cautioned that such harbourers would be punished as per the law.

Referring to the recent deportation drive against the illegal Bangladeshi settlers initiated by All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU), the Home Minister said that such drive was a regular feature which was suspended temporarily due to certain problems.

Replying to a question regarding Asom's opposition on the deportation drive, Mr Gamlin clarified that Arunachal had not asked Asom to provide shelter to over 5000 Bangladeshi citizens being driven out of the state recently.

The minister also appealed to the people to report to the state government on harassment meted out to genuine Indians while obtaining ILP by the authority concerned for initiating necessary action against them.

Menawhile, the state government while supporting extension of ceasefire agreement between NSCN (IM) and the Centre, called for implementing the same at Tirap and Chnglang districts of the state in toto.
