Telecom Union opposes VRS for BSNL employees

Ambala, Aug 5 (UNI) The National Federation of Telecom Employee Union (NFTE) has opposed the proposal of the central government with regard to voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) of 20,000 employees of the BSNL in the country.

The issue was raised in the 2-day meeting of the National Working Committee of NFTE concluded here today.

The Federation Secretary M V Vichare stated that the employees being brought under the VRS would suffer adversely and the Federation would oppose the scheme tooth and nail.

Mr Vichare said that to discourage the activists in the Federation, they were being transferred to distant places so that the functionaries could not have liaison with each other and mobilize the union activities. He pointed out that the employees in group A and B got promotion within 4-6 years, whereas those in group C and D had no promotion chances since the government had no declared policy in this regard.

He also demanded an urgent review of the promotion policy so that Group C and D employees were promoted within a stipulated period.
