Pvt Medical College exam conducted peacefully
Kochi, Aug 5 (UNI) More than 1,000 students today appeared for the entrance examination conducted by the Kerala Private Medical College Management Association amid tight security arrangements made by the state government as per directions of the Supreme Court.
The examination, which started at 0930 hrs, went off peacefully at four centers unlike on June 26, when the test had to be abandoned after SFI and AISF activists barged into the examination center at Toc-H School and disrupted the proceedings.
The management association then petitioned the apex court for central forces to provide security. The Supreme Court came down heavily on the state government and directed it to provide full security for the conduct of the exam.
The examination, under the supervision of the admission superivsory committee set up by the state government, was conducted at the Central Schools at INS Dronacharya, Kataribagh and Port Trust.
The examination was conducted for entrance to four medical colleges which have not entered into an agreement with the government regarding fee structure and merit quota seats. These are Amala Institute of Medical Sciences, Thrissur, Jubilee Mission Medical College and Research Institute, Thrissur, Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Medical College, Kolencherry and Pushpagiri Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Thiruvalla.
A large number of police personnel were deployed at the centers to prevent any disruption of the examination.
Although the Left students groups did not interrupt the test, the SFI and AISF held a protest demonstration in the city and warned that they will not let private managements exploit students.
