Police roundup about 540 rowdies in Chennai

Chennai, Aug 5 (UNI) The city police have rounded up about 540 rowdies and anti-social elements, most of them wanted in various cases, here last night, According to City Police Commmissioner G Nanjil Kumaran the operation was carried out to make the city free from anti-socials and arrest habitual and absconding offenders.

Such operations would continue in the future also, he said.

While 117 persons were detained from North Chennai, 323 were taken into custody from Central Chennai and 110 from South Chennai.

Of 117 from North Chennai, 43 were old criminals and 18 had non-bailable warrants issued against them.
