One mother project to boost trout fish production in J

Srinagar, Aug 5 (UNI) To give a big boost to trout fish production in the state, a mother project had been set up in south Kashmir where eight lakh of fry of trout are being produced for catering to the need of various rearing units in the Jammu and Kashmir.

Director Fisheries, T Angchook said, two National Fish Seed Farms, one at Kathua and another at Mansbal in Kashmir valley are already working.

The quality seed of carps like Indian Major Carps are produced in these farms.

To give a further boost to trout fish, the department had set up one mother project at Kokernag where, with other minor hatcheries, produced 18 lakh of fry of trout for catering to the need of various rearing units in the state.

The department had sold out 60 tons of trout to the common man till date.

He said under Prime Minister's package the department had set up 395 units in the private sector for employment of the unemployed rural youth.

The department intended to set up 100 units during the current financial year, he added.
