One killed, 18 injured in rail accident

Kolkata, Aug 5 (UNI) One person was today killed and 18 others were injured in a rail accident in the Katwa-Burdwan section of the Eastern Railways early today.

Eastern Railways PRO told UNI that the incident occurred when the engine of 288 Dn Katwa-Burdwan Narrow Gauge passenger overturned following a collision with a truck between Kamnara halt and Burdwan station.

The truck had entered the railway tracks through the unmanned level crossing gate and dashed with the engine.

Tne injured persons included the driver, assisstant driver of the train and the assisstant station master .

The driver had suffered grievious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hostipal in Burdwan. The others, who had received minor injuries have been released with first aid.

The Railway medical team along with Howrah DRM A K Moitro and senior officials have also reached the spot.
