NESO demands better educational facilities for NE
Guwahati, Aug 5 (UNI) The North East Students' Organisation(NESO) today demanded better educational and employment opportunities for the youth of the region.
Dr Sammujjal Bhattacharyya, who retained the NESO chairmanship at the two-day central executive at Shillong recently, said here, ''Good education should be provided to the students of the NE and for that we need good institutes.'' He further said lack of new courses in the region's institutes was proving a deterrent for students of the region.
''The rich can send their wards to other states but the poor students are being deprived from it,'' he added.
Dr Bhattacharyya demanded that a Special Education Commission should be constituted for NE and the region should also be declared a special employment zone.
Taking a dig at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the NESO chairman accused him of not looking into the problems of the region and using NE only for getting elected to the Rajya Sabha.
'' Dr Singh must put a stop to the step-motherly attitude of the Centre to the region,'' he added.
