Heavy rains continue in south interior Karnataka
Bangalore, Aug 5 (UNI) South West Monsoon continued to bring heavy rains in south interior parts of Karnataka, while widespread rains were reported from most parts of coastal Karnataka and north interior Karnataka during the last 24 hours.
Normal life remained affected in Chikmagalur, Shimoga, Kodagu and Udupi districts with Agumbe in Shimoga District receiving 23 cm rain.
Heavy rains were reported from Kodagu district with Bhagamandala receiving 19 cm of rain during the same period.
The other places that received very heavy rains included Kollur 18 cm, Honavar 17 cm, Yellapura and Kammardi 16 cm each, Kiravatti 14cm and Ankola 13 cm.
Local weather office warned of heavy to very heavy rains at a few places over coastal Karnataka and south interior Karnataka during the next 48 hours.
Meanwhile, people living in the downstream of Linganamakki dam across Sharavati in Shimoga district have been issued a final warning to shift to safer places as the authorities were to release the extra water any time from the dam which was nearing the danger mark.
The water level was increasing constantly with present inflow at 65,000 cusecs and it had touched 1812 ft level today against the maximum level of 1819 ft, it said adding that the water may be released any time considering the safety of the dam.
