Fire at Varanasi Airport, computer network hit

Varanasi, Aug 5: A fire at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport here affected airport computer operations for a brief period today.

The fire was caused by an electric short circuit inside the communication server room on the first floor of the terminal building which affected the entire Local Area Network (LAN) of computers at the airport in the Babatpur area.

''The fire was caused by an electric short circuit in the air-conditioner of the server room at 1130 hrs due to which the spare battery also caught fire,'' sources in Airport security said.

The technical staff immediately shut down the computer server to prevent any damage following which the computers at the Airport came to a standstill.

The airport staff swung into action and doused the fire and later the electrical snag was repaired to ensure normal functioning at the communication server room. The functioning of computers as well as the information display boards was also set in motion, sources added.

The fire inside the Airport premises, however, did not affect flight operations.
