CM launches RGRES in Chamba district of HP

Shimla, Aug 5 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today launched the Rs 25.2 crore Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme (RGRES) in Chamba district of the state.

The scheme would help in building necessary infrastructure with the installation of 175 new transforms, laying of 222 km long 11 KV high tension wire and 472 km LT line in the district, he said at Chamba.

Mr Singh said 647 houses of poor and deserving people would be electrified free of cost, besides electrifying 2,531 other houses that had not been electrified till March 2005.

Under the scheme, 33 KV Sub Stations would be upgraded at Koti, Bharmour, Nakrod (Tissa), and Sinhuta besides adding one more 33 KV Sub Station in district at Killar in Pangi Valley, he said.

He said the scheme would go a long way in strengthening the electricity supply network in the district besides solving the low voltage problem in the rural and tribal areas.

The system improvement work was also in progress in the state and would benefit the Chamba district of the state, he said.

The Chief Minister said every area of Chamba district would get quality power with the implementation of the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme besides getting benefited under the APDRP scheme.

State Power Minister Vidya Stokes, who was also present on the occasion, said system improvement was on after achieving cent percent electrification two decades ago.
