Woman accused of theft assaulted

Barasat, Aug 4 (UNI) A woman was physically assaulted by villagers at Swarupnagar under the same police station in North 24 Parganas yesterday.

Police here today said a few irate mob assaulted the woman, working as a domestic help, and tonsured her head after accusing her of theft.

The people even assaulted the mediapersons, who were present at the spot.

Police had taken the woman into custody and were searching for the villagers, who were at large after the incident.
