Windstorm kills woman in Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 4: A strong windstorm killed a Gujjar woman and uprooted more than 200 forest trees in north Kashmir, official sources said.

They said the windstorm hit Nadihal area in north Kashmir on the night of August 2 causing on-the-spot death of a Gujjar woman.

It also uprooted more than 200 trees in Kutroo forest.

Minister for PHE, Tourism and Horticulture, Mohammad Dilawar Mir visited the residence of the deceased woman and paid cash assistance to the bereaved family.

He conducted an extensive tour of the remotest and backward areas of Kutroo-Naribal in Rafiabad and took stock of the ongoing developmental schemes in the area, mostly inhabited by the Gujjar population living below the poverty line.

The Minister instructed the engineers to take up construction of the Kutroo Naribal, Balhama-Naribal and Ladi Augan roads on priority and war-footing under Border Area Development Programme (BADP) to provide road linkage to this far-flung and backward area.

The Minister also took stock of the damage caused to some residential houses at Nadihal during recent cross-firing incident and assured all possible help to the affected families.
