TN CM to take part in Rajiv's birth ann celebrations

Chennai, Aug 4: DMK President and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi would visit Congress headquarters 'Sathyamurthy Bhavan' here on August 20 to inauguarate the birth anniversary celebrations of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

TNCC President M Krishnasamy, who called on Mr Karunanidhi yesterday, told newspersons that during the courtesy call, he invited the Chief Minister to inaugurate the celebrations and the latter readily agreed.

Mr Krishnasamy said the Congress would accord a grand reception to Mr Karunanidhi when he arrives at the party headquarters.

He said the TNCC has also made arrangements to celebrate Mr Gandhi's birth anniversary in a grand manner.

Mr Karunanidhi would deliver an address after distributing welfare assistsance to the poor.

Besides Congress MPs, MLAs and senior leaders, AICC member Veerappa Moily, who is incharge of Tamil Nadu affairs of the party, would also take part in the function.

Meanwhile, Mr Krishnasamy said during his brief meeting with Mr Karunanidhi, he discussed general issues pertaining to the state.
