Revived monsoon brings more rains in HP
Shimla, Aug 4 (UNI) The revived southwestern monsoon continued to bring widespread rains in Himachal Pradesh for the third day today, triggering landslides and disrupting traffic at a few places in the state.
Rajgarh in Solan district was the wettest place in the state during the last 24 hrs after receiving 100 mm of rain followed by 88 mm at Renuka, 57 mm at Jubbal in Shimla district, 55.8 at Shimla and 52.4 mm at Kasol in Bilaspur district.
The met office said Kahu and Berthin in Bilaspur district recorded 48 and 39 mm rains respectively, while Rampur and Sunni, both in Shimla district, recorded 35 mm and 32.2 mm rains respectively till 0830 hrs.
Shimla town also recorded five mm of rains during the day up till 1430 hrs, it said.
Sujanpur Tira in Hamirpuir district experienced 30.5 mm rain, Dharamshala in Kangra district 31.8 mm, Rohru in Shimla district 31.5 mm, while the famous tourist resort of Kasauli recorded 23.5 mm rain up till 0830 hrs.
It said Tissa in Chamba district received 20.1 mm rain followed by 17.4 each at Barsar in Hamirpur and Palampur in Kangra district, while Sundernagar in Mandi district experienced 12.6 mm and Kalpa in Kinnuar district received 12.5 mm rains.
The higher altitude areas of the tribal district of Lahaul Spiti recorded mild snowfall overnight, while lower areas of the district experienced light showers.
Several areas of Kinnuar and Chamba district also recorded light rains last night.
The maximum and minimum temperatures continue to fall in the state with night temperature at Shimla further dropping to 15 degree Celsius from yesterday's 16.5 degrees.
The minimum at Sundernagar, Bhuntar and Kalpa also dropped to 21.3, 18, and 9.8 degrees in comparison to yesterday's low of 22, 19.1 and 11 degree Celsius respectively, the met office said.
The maximum temperatures in the state rose by a few degrees to stand at 21.2 degrees at Shimla, 27.7 at Sundernagar, 26.2 at Bhuntar and 15.9 degrees Celsius at Kalpa.
The met office predicted rains at several places in the state during the next 24 hrs.
