Ministerial committee to review Tata proj set up
Chennai, Aug 4: The Tamil Nadu Government today constituted a high-level Ministerial committee to elicit views from the public and local representatives on setting up of the shelved Rs 2,500- crore Titanium di-oxide project by Tatas.
Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, in a statement here said the committee would comprise Minister for Mines and Higher Education K Ponmudy, Tourism Minister N Suresh Rajan and Animal Husbandry Minister Ms Geetham Jeevan.
The other members of the review committee included the Industries Secretary, Revenue Secretary and Commissioner for Mines and Minerals.
The committee would soon visit Sathankulam in Tuticorin district, where the project was scheduled to be set up, meet the locals and submit their report to the government.
The government had signed an MoU with the Tatas for setting up the project, but put it on hold following objections by the main opposition AIADMK and from the constituents of the DMK-led DPA.
