Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 4 (UNI) Alleging that the law and order situation in Kerala has deteriorated, the Congress today alleged that the Left Democratic Front Government was ''politicising the police force''.

Addressing newspersons after the Party Executive meeting here, Pradesh Congress President Ramesh Chennithala alleged that the police force in the State had kept silent when the pro-CPI(M) students and youth wings had unleashed terror in the State.

''It should be noted that the Kerala High Court as well as the Supreme Court had pulled up the state police force for its laxity,'' he said.

The activists of the Students Federation of India, the students wing of the CPI(M), had attacked the Ernakulam District Congress Committee office yesterday and the police came after an hour to the spot, he said, adding that this only showed the laxity on the part of the Police.

Mr Chennithala alleged that the CPI(M) was trying to suppress those who talked against it and its leaders. This was against democratic principles and the CPI(M) should withdraw from such activities.

On the new Ordinance regarding fees in Self-Financing Professional Colleges, he alleged that the Government had to promulgate an ordinance as State Education Minister M A Baby had gone for an agreement with the College managements even when the Mohammed Committee had been entrusted with the fees issue. It was without any thinking that the LDF had come up with the Self Financing Professional Colleges Act, he added.

KPCC Spokesman M M Hassan, who was also present, said the allegation that Mr Chennithala had accepted bribe from a financial institution was only to cover up the allegations against CPI(M) State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan in the SNC Lavalin issue.
