IBD found responsible for chicken death in Tripura

Agartala, Aug 4 (UNI) The Tripura Disease Investigation Laboratory (DIL) Report confirmed here today that Infectious Birdcell Disease (IBD) was responsible for chicken's death in Khowai Divodaya Krishi Vignan Kendra (KDKVK) in the last three days.

Quoting DIL report, Animal Resource Development officials stated all precautionary measures had been taken to avert any consequence of Avian Influenza in the state even though DIL report ruled out the possibility of HSN1 virus infection in poultry farm.

IBD is a very common disease of chicken but not fatal to human being, the DIL report said adding that since Avian Influenza had hit neighbouring Manipur and Bangladesh, it needed to be tested in specialised clinic.

Meanwhile, the state government is still waiting for the report of Bhopal laboratory regarding H5N1 strain of the virus spread, as the carcass of the chicken was sent to Bhopal soon after the death.

About 500 poultry products were dead in KVK during past three days, which triggered an alarm bell in the state while state bird flu monitoring committee, headed by Chief Secretary Shasiprakash held an emergency meeting yesterday and it imposed fresh ban on the import of poultry.

'' We have asked BSF and other paramilitary forces to keep a close vigil on the movement of poultry stuff and advised the chick businessmen to be careful,'' said state Animal Husbandry Minister Pranab Debbarmma.

He also stated there had been no report of bird flu case in other states of the northeast so far, but the discovery of the virus in Manipur pressed the panic button across the region.

Manipur government last week sounded a general alert across the state and banned the sale and purchase of poultry after the Indian Health and Animal Husbandry Department confirmed that tests carried out on chickens, that died at the Chenngmeirong farm of the state, were positive for bird flu.
