Patna, Aug 4 (UNI) To check the possible outbreak of epidemic among flood victims, the Bihar government today issued instructions to the authorities concerned for installation of handpipes at flood relief camps.

State Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) Minister Prem Kumar said here that the step had been taken to ensure safe drinking water supply among the flood victims. Safe drinking water was one of the vital steps to avoid any possibility of epidemic outbreak in the affected areas, he added.

''In Darbhanga and Muzaffarpur district, officials have already initiated the steps for installation of handpipes while work would be carried out in other flood affected districts on war footing in this regard,'' Mr Kumar said.

''I am personally supervising relief and rescue operations in East and West Champaran districts and any laxity on part of the officers in providing succour to flood victims would not be tolerated,'' the minister added.
