Kolkata, Aug 04: In the best ever quarterly performance, Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) has recorded 70 per cent rise in its net profit at Rs 220 crore and 20 per cent increase in turnover at Rs 1,009 crore in the first quarter of the current fiscal as compared to the figures in the corresponding period last year.

Company sources today said the increase in profits was primarily driven by enhanced internal efficiency with 21 per cent, 13 per cent and six per cent growth respectively in the production of hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel.

The rise in net profit was also attributed to the emphasis on special steel production and optimising product mix with 31 per cent growth in the production of special steel, which was 24 per cent of the total production, the sources said.

Introduction of niche products like spring steel, reistant TMT bars for the construction sector, SUP 11A for the auto sector had a positive impact on the bottom line, it said.
