'Dishtv on Computer' to be launched
Chennai, Aug 4 (UNI) Reaching yet another landmark in the history of Television viewing, Dishtv, the pioneer of DTH technology in the country, will launch 'Dishtv on Computer', the first of its kind in the world.
Addressing a press conference here today, Company Managing Director Jawahar Goel said the special set-top-box (STB) when connected to the desktop PC, could alter between a computer and TV serving the viewers interest.
He said Dishtv on Computer extends unparalleled experience to the viewers by offering a bouquet of 171 channels, value added services, active features, gaming and the like, and added that efforts were on to increase the total number of channels to 200 by end of this fiscal.
He claimed that with this new innovation, Dishtv would be emphasising its position as the ultimate authority, redefining the television viewing space.
''It offers a dual advantage of being compatible to the computer and television that too in a user-friendly manner, '' he said. Its functions are similar to that of a regular dishtv STB where a dish installed on the roof/terrace is tuned to a particulr direction and the VGA box (special set-top box compatible with computers) is connected to the PC.
He said the VGA box comes at a price of Rs 4,150, inclusive of equipment, installation fee and taxes. The product would be launched in a phased manner and was currently available in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad.
There were 2.2 million subscribers throughout the country, of which 1.3 lakh were in Tamil Nadu, he added.
