Chandannagar, Aug 4 (UNI) A sub-divisional court today remanded Debu Malik, the prime accused in the Tapasi Malik murder case, to another 14 days of judicial custody, rejecting his bail petition.

Praying for bail of the accused to Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Pradip Bandopadhyay, the defence counsel argued that the trousers, shirt and a wrapper, seized by CBI sleuths from the house of Debu's brother-in-law, had no blood stain nor did have any smell of diesel even as a charge had been framed against him for burning alive the victim in December last year.

This showed that there was a conspiracy to frame Debu in the case, he argued.

However, the CBI counsel said the arrest of Debu had not been made without any confirmed proof. He also said the seized articles had been sent for forensic test and the report would be placed in the court in due time.

He prayed that the accused be remanded in judicial custody in the interest of the ongoing which the judge granted.

Debu Malik, a CPI (M) worker and the leader of the security ring around the Tata's small car project at Singur, was accused of criminally assaulting Tapasi, an active member of the Bhumi Uchched Pratirodh Committee who was movement against the proposed car unit.
