Cardimum smugglers get three year imprisonment

Patna, Aug 4 (UNI) A special court here today awarded three-year Rigorous Imprisonment to two people in a case related to smuggling of small cardimum.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 3,000 each on the convicts.

Special Judge for Economic Offence Shahid Khan found the accused guilty of violating the provisions of the Customs Act.

One of the convicts was a resident of Sitamarhi district, while the other hailed from Gorakhpur district in Uttar Pradesh.

According to charges, the convicts were carrying 14.45 quintals of smuggled cardimum worth Rs 8.67 lakh in international market.

The duo were arrested and cardimum was seized at Piprah Kothi in Bihar on July 16, 1998.

The consignment was sent to Bihar from Nepal by Chaurh-Danau border.
