BJP to oppose Minority Bill in Parliament

Dimapur, Aug 4 (UNI) BJP president Rajnath Singh today said his party would oppose in Parliament the introduction of Constitution (103) Amendment Bill, seeking to define minority status by the population at state level rather than at national level.

Talking to newsmen here, Mr Singh said it would further divide the nation and questioned the Prime Minister and Planning Commission's move to select backward 90 districts of the country on the basis of religion and provide development fund.

Selection of the districts should be on the basis of their backwardness and not religion, he opined.

However, the Congress-led UPA Government had gone ahead against the spirit of the Constitution and selected Muslim-populated districts to appease the community, he alleged.

Mr Singh appealed to the people of Nagaland to be careful of the Congress' ''divide and rule'' policy.

''The BJP believes in equality for all and appeasement of none,'' he stated.
