APSRTC to introduce 3,100 new buses by March '08

Vijayawada, Aug 4 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) will introduce about 3,100 new buses across the state by March 2008, APSRTC Zonal Executive Director S Dharma Reddy said today.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Reddy, who had taken charge as ED on August one, said that for the first time in South India, four new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses had been introduced in the city recently and 91 more such buses would be operated in the city by December 2007.

He said the Occupancy Ratio as compared to last year had increased by more than three per cent from March to June this year.

Admitting that the APSRTC was receiving support from the state government, he said the corporation management had no proposal to close the bus depots which were running in losses.

He said 50 Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspectors (AMVI) had been appointed by the government recently to curb the illicit running of buses by private operators without proper permits.
