Agitating journalists to resume work tomorrow

Imphal, Aug 4 (UNI) The agitating journalists of Manipur today decided to resume their work from tomorrow, sources said.

The journalists of the State had struck work since July 31 and consequently there had been no circulation of newspapers from August one. They also held demonstrations at Keishampat, Imphal from August 1 to 3 to demand non-interference in the activities of the journalists.

On July 31, a bomb was placed at the office of a local newspaper at Imphal by suspected militants. Later, the All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) staged a protest.

Besides, a militant group threatened the journalists with dire consequences if their press handouts were not published, while another outfit threatened to attack the journalists if the same press release was published.

A day-long deliberation was held at Imphal, organised by the AMWJU during the day and it was resolved that the journalists would resume their work from tomorrow. The groups responsible for threats to the journalists also reportedly assured not to repeat such threats in future.
