5 sentenced to death for murder in Merrut

Meerut, Aug 4 (UNI) A local court here sentenced five accused to death in a land dispute case, in which three members of the same family were murdered.

After the court's decision, the supporters of the defendants rose in protest and damaged the properties in the court premises and also tried to help escape the accused from the police custody.

District Judge Subodh Kumar sentenced five accused in the murder case, namely Khalid, Nadeem alias Kalia, Moinuddin and Tahir, to death.

Due to the sensitivity of the case, the police had made strict security arrangements in the court premises.

In a land dispute in Sarai Bahlim of Kotwali Thana area, seven members of a same family who were attacked three namely Dr Naseeruddin, Mohd Haseen alias Guddu and Ghulam Alauddin alias Prince were killed and four were injured.

Khalid had been sentenced to life imprisonment in an another case and is on bail these days.

The supporters of the defendants damaged the property and shouted slogans against the judiciary in the court premises in protest against the decision. The protestors also tried to help all the five culprits to escape. But the driver switched on the emergency alarm and successfully drove off.

According to the police sources, Senior Superintendent of Police Vijay Prakash reached the spot and the security personnel were able to bring the situation under control.
