Torrent Power unearths power theft in eastern Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, Aug 3 (UNI) Officials of Torrent Power company raided over 1,200 premises in eastern Ahmedabad and seized over 45 kg of cables and wires from Millatnagar-I and Millatnagar-II areas today.

In a joint operation by employees of Torrent Power company and policemen from Maninagar police station, a direct joint was unearthed on the main cable from Siyasatnagar PMT and an illegal distribution network over 1 km long was found and removed from the site.

Torrent Power is in the process of identifying the middlemen involved and filing FIRs against them.

These raids come close on the heels of the raid in the Juhapura and Danilimda area which are part of the company's continued efforts to nab power thieves. A person was recently sentenced by the court to 2 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 4.5 lakhs imposed on him.
