Officers in Jessica case acquitted by HC
New Delhi, Aug 3: The Delhi High Court today acquitted the police officers accused of misleading the investigations in Jessica Lal murder case to help prime accused Manu Sharma earn acquittal from the lower court.
A bench comprising Justices R S Sodhi and P K Bhasin heard the arguments of additional solicitor general Gopal Subramanium, who asserted that the Special Investigation Team did not find criminality in the conduct of the policemen investigating the case in 1999.
Constituted to probe the intentional lapses by the police officers, the SIT had submitted before the court their report for the perusal of the judges.
The court, during previous hearing, had expressed exasperation with the SIT calling the report a waste of time and paper. However, Mr Subramanium brought the court around with his view today.
The Court had taken suo motu cognizance against the policemen when the media reported that the police officers had misled the probe to help Manu Sharma get acquittal.
On March 6, last year, the SIT had also registered an FIR against the police officers.
