MCD rationalises car, two-wheeler parking charges
New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has rationalised car and two-wheeler parking charges and the new rates will be applicable from August 7.
Addressing a news conference, Standing Committee Chairman Vijender Gupta said the rationalising will lead to transparency, saving and less payment on part of the citizens.
''The new rates will not only curb the malpractice of overcharging being presently indulged in by the contractors, it will ultimately lead to more saving and payment of lower charges on the part of public,'' he added.
The new system would have less structured charges leading to more clarity and transparency, he said.
''It will be difficult on the part of contractors and their workers to misinterpret the rate structure and overcharge the parking users,'' he added.
Mr Gupta said the existing rates prescribed by the MCD on hourly basis were becoming a cause of complaints from the public.
The new revised rates are simple and are in consonance with the parking policy submitted by the MCD before the Supreme Court.
The rationalisation of rates will also bring more revenue to MCD, since the contractors of parking sites will have to pay 50 per cent extra of the existing license fee or the site will be retendered.
Proposed Parking Charges for cars are Rs 10 up to ten hrs, Rs 20 beyond 10 hrs up to 24 hours, Rs 500 per month, Rs 600 for Gandhi Maidan and Church Mission Road Parking, Rs 700 for Asaf Ali Road Parking.
For two wheelers, it is Rs 7 up to ten hrs, Rs 15 beyond ten hrs up to 24 hours.
