Anand, Aug 2 (UNI) A fast track court here sentenced a man to six months imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 500 before setting him free, as he had been in jail for the past 13 months.

Fast track court judge S I Timbaliya yesterday sentenced Vikram Lalji Chauhan of Bin Talao area of Khambhat for forging the birth certificate of a minor girl and his own over a year ago.

Vikram had taken a minor girl to Bhavnagar and then altered her birth certificate. She was shown as born in 1987 instead of 1989, while he altered his birth certifcate from 1989 to 1984. He also notarised the changes. The idea presumably was to marry the minor girl. However, Vikram was caught. The police then registered cases against him under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 468 and 471 relating to forgery and cheating.

When Vikram's case came up, the judge awarded the sentence and also slapped a fine. However, realising that the culprit had already served over a year in jail he then ordered him to be released.
