Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, Aug 3 (UNI) The Chhattisgarh High Court today granted bail to three sacked police officers who were found guilty, by a special court, of misleading the judiciary in the case relating to the murder of NCP state Treasurer Ramavtar Jaggi who was gunned down at Raipur on June 4, 2003.

Justice Sunil Sinha accepted the pleas of the then City Superintendent of Police (Raipur) Amreek Singh Gill, the then Town Inspector (Maudhapara) V K Pandey and Crime Branch Incharge R C Trivedi.

On May 31, a Raipur-based special court sentenced the trio to five years' imprisonment each for presenting trumped-up evidence and two years each for furnishing inaccurate records in the capacity of government servants. The state government subsequently sacked the trio.

After the BJP regime came to power in 2003, a CBI inquiry was ordered into Mr Jaggi's murder. The investigating agency named former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi's son Amit as the prime conspirator but he was acquitted on benefit of doubt while 19 other accused were awarded life terms, nine got five years' imprisonment each while two turned government witnesses.

The state government has moved the High Court against Mr Amit's acquittal.
