Fake currency racket busted, 4 arrested

Lucknow, Aug 3 (UNI) Police has busted a fake currency racket with the arrest of four persons and seizure of a large quantity of illegal tender in the naxal-infested Sonebhadra district.

According to police here, the arrests were made in Shaktinagar area near Duddhichua trisection last night.

Those arrested were identified as Santosh of Madhya Pradesh, Kanhaiyya Yadav of Sonebhadra, Munna alias Ranjit Patel and Jogiram of Bihar.

On checking, fake notes in the denomination of Rs 500 amounting to a total of Rs 1.4 lakh were recovered from their possession.

On interrogation, they informed that Mohd Munnawar of Deoria had sourced the counterfeit currency from Nepal and delivered it to them for circulation.

The quartet confessed that the fake currency was circulated in small towns of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and they received 30 per cent commission on it.

The accused had been sent to jail.
