Seven debt-ridden farmers commit suicide in Vidarbha
Nagpur, Aug 2 (UNI) Seven debt-ridden farmers committed suicide in the last two days in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, according to Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS), a voluntary organisation.
The seven farmers, who ended their lives included three from Amravati, two from Washim and one each from Yavatmal and Wardha districts, a VJAS press release here said.
With this, the number of farmers who have ended their lives in 2007 has touched 543, the release said. These included 70 in January, 86 in February, 82 in March, 90 in April, 79 in May, 68 in June, 64 in July and 4 in August, it said.
According to figures compiled by VJAS, there have been 137 suicides in Yavatmal district, 95 in Amravati, 63 in Akola, 81 in Washim, 59 in Buldhana, 44 in Wardha, 13 in Nagpur, 19 in Bhandara, 19 in Chandrapur, 6 in Gadchiroli and seven in Gondia during the year.
